Princess Toy Box Review and Giveaway NOW CLOSED

Our Princess absolutely loves her new wooden toy box! Doesn't it look so cute in the corner of her room?

It took us about 20 minutes to put this together and was pretty easy. All we needed was a screwdriver and the instructions...... no drilling, hammering, cutting, painting, or cussing! :)

She's already been putting this to good use. Not even a minute after the toy box was put together she was busy filling it up with her dress-up clothes, princess dresses and accessories. It's practically overflowing with tulle, feathers, and sequins at this point! :)

Notice how the lid stays open by itself? It has a safety latch inside that doesn't allow the lid to come crashing down on little fingers. A great feature if you ask me. This toy box also has a nice soft cushion on the top and can be used as a bench as well. A great spot to relax or do some reading...

Arabian Nights

For dinner on Saturday night, we went to a place called Arabian Nights

From the Arabian Nights website:

At the exciting Arabian Nights Dinner Attraction, guests enter the magical world of Scheherazade, a young girl with a bigger-than-life dream of becoming a beautiful Princess. Two magical Genies take Scheherazade and her guests on a thrilling and romantic adventure filled with music, lights and daring acts where anything can happen, from a square dance on horseback to chariots racing and Gypsies leaping, flipping and dancing on moving horses’ backs!

The large-scale theatrical production at Arabian Nights features riders and acrobats performing with more than 60 horses, including Walter Farley’s Black Stallion. The nightly performances, featuring delicious menu options, give guests the most incredible experience among Central Florida’s dinner shows.

This dinner show was like nothing I have ever seen before. We were seated in stadium-like seating in a huge arena where we were able to watch the horse show as we ate. The story of the show itself was great. But, my favorite part was the amazing acrobats and stunts from the horses and performers. Very exciting and fun!

Gatorland

We enjoyed Saturday afternoon at Gatorland.

I haven't seen so many alligators and crocodiles in one place.... ever! This would be a great location to take a family. I'm guessing my boys would LOVE it.

From the Gatorland Website:

At 110- acres, Gatorland provides affordable-priced family fun with thousands of alligators & crocodiles to see, an aviary, breeding marsh with observation tower, petting zoo, nature walk, award-winning gift shop and one-of-a-kind reptilian shows including the Gator Wrestlin' Show, Gator Jumparoo and the Up-close Encounters Show.

Take a ride on the Gatorland Express train and then head on over to Gator Gully Splash Park where kids of all ages can enjoy a good ol' fashion squirtfest!

The park was beautiful with animals (mostly alligators) to look at, everywhere.
We literally were able to get THIS close to some alligators in the park and had a rare chance to go inside the fence to feed these enormous beasts! Terrifying?.... YES. But so, so neat as well.

These rare white alligators were my favorite part of Gatorand. There are only 12 known white alligators living on the planet, and 4 of them live at Gatorland! These alligators were rescued as they were hatching and would have died if they were left in nature (as they can't be in the sun and are not camouflaged to protect themselves from predators in the wild.)
On a side note: If you're brave enough to try alligator, they even sell "gator strips" in their eatery! I wasn't going to go there and stuck with chicken lol. Maybe next time.
We all had a great time and I hope to visit again some day. Thank you Gatorland!

Boggy Creek Airboat Rides

Saturday morning we headed over to Boggy Creek Airboat Rides. As you can see, everyone was bundled up because it was freezing! I thought Florida was supposed to be warm? :)
Even though it was cold (and yes, my fingers AND toes were numb) it was so worth it. Look at this beautiful view of the Everglades......

We saw all kinds of wildlife and plants. Most of which I have never seen before.
After the boat ride, we got to hold this live alligator! Thank you Boggy Creek Airboat Rides for an amazing adventure!

Sleuths Mystery Dinner

On Friday night (after ziplining) we went to Sleuths in Orlando for a "mystery dinner show."

The show was hysterical! My favorite character was "Maggie" (the guy/girl in the blue dress on the far left.) This really was entertaining and a lot of fun.
For dinner, we had the choice of Cornish game hen or lasagna. Yum!

Our table was filled with lots of giggling and great conversation. I'm not sure we ever figured out who murdered who in the show, we were having too much fun! Great time had by all that night at Sleuths Mystery Dinner.

Florida EcoSafaris

I shouldn't play favorites.... BUT I have to say, zip lining at EcoSafaris was my favorite event during Brandcation!

I mean really, who could not have fun doing this?

I do have to admit, when we first saw the tower and the stairs we had to climb to get to the top of the first platform, we were a little freaked out! But, after the first zip line we were all hooked.

Actually, I loved this so much, I'm planning on taking my family back to do this 2 1/2 hour zip line course again, as soon as my kids are big enough. (They do need to be at least 10 years old and 70 pounds to ride the zip line.)

You'll start with a short hike along a scenic section of the Florida Trail, one of only eight National Scenic Trails in the US, as you head toward the launching point of the zipline course. Led by an expert guide, you'll "zip" among the trees from platform to platform along a system of seven high-tension cables.

The breathtaking aerial view of the wilderness will be the perfect vantage point to spot wildlife and experience Florida's ecology. Adding to the adventure, the course includes two sky-bridges passing over a slough, a type of forested wetland.

See the wilds of Forever Florida like never before - from high up in the treetops! Our NEW Zipline Safari will take you on a two and a half hour adventure like none other, reaching heights of 55 feet and speeds up to 25 mph!

You'll sail above it all on this breathtaking aerial nature tour - a network of cables designed to send thrill-seekers flying through Pine Flatwoods and over forested wetlands, home to native Florida wildlife including alligators, black bears, white tail deer and the endangered Florida Panther.

*This last picture was taken by my housemate (Candy) and was my favorite part of the course. On one of the ziplines, we flew right over this 13 foot alligator! Yep, I was brave enough to zipline over an alligator.... that makes me sound really cool. :)

Recently I did something so fun (and not something I would normally do.) I took a trip without my kids or husband! That's right, just the girls. And let me tell you, I don't think I've ever had so much fun!! Together with 30 of my "best friends" I spent a few days in Kissimmee, Florida.

"Brandcation" was sponsored by Global Resort Homes who generously let us stay in several of their gorgeous vacation homes for our event.

Oh my goodness, these homes were BEAUTIFUL. If you want a full tour of the house I stayed in and to meet one of my housemates (Nicole) go here. Btw, I already miss listening to her cute accent. :)

I've decided that this is the way to go! For our next family vacation I will definitely be looking into reserving a resort home instead of renting a hotel. The price is really not much more than a regular hotel room, and I loved having a washer and dryer, private pool, separate bedrooms, kitchen, game area... and so much more available. I think we had just as much fun hanging out at the house as we did on our events!

I had so much fun bonding with the other bloggers who attended this event with me. We made memories in "our house" that will last a lifetime.

I'm sure if you've been following our hair blog for any amount of time, you've probably noticed that we use our topsy tail a lot!

How To Get Votes For Your Photo:

To get votes for your photo, people need to LIKE it on facebook. What do I mean by "like?" In the "baby photo contest album" (where all the pictures will be) if someone clicks on your photo, they will see a link underneath the picture that says "like." (To see the "like" link, the person voting does need to be a fan or "like" our hairstyle page first.) Every time someone clicks on "like" underneath your photo, you will get a vote. Easy Peasy! Facebook conveniently will only let each person like a photo one time, so you won't have to worry about someone voting on the same photo over and over. :) You can try to get votes however you would like (blogging, posting on facebook, sending emails to family and friends, etc.) Or just send the picture in and see what happens. *We had this come up last time, so.... Yes, you ARE allowed to vote for your own photo. :)

How The Winners/Prizes Will Be Determined:

Whoever has the most "likes" on their photo when the contest ends will win the first place prize of $75. The photo with the second most likes will win the 2nd place prize of $40. The photo with the 3rd most likes will win the 3rd place prize of $20.

I have to admit, I am one of the least crafty people I know. Seriously, sad but true. I normally wouldn't even consider trying to make something I can buy at a reasonable price. Yep, hundreds of craft projects gone seriously wrong in the past (by my own two hands) have taught me to stay far far away from anything requiring a glue gun, paint, or tulle.

I would however maybe put my "no craft rule" aside and consider learning how to make a tutu. Only because my daughter LOVES them, and they usually are pricey to buy. Plus I've heard the instructions on this DVD don't require a sewing machine. That's a huge plus for me!

We haven't tried curling the Princess's hair since she got it cut, so when Strawllers contacted us to try out their product, I thought it would be a fun experiment.

There are five sizes of Strawllers available. We decided to go with the fairly large sized beige (1 1/8 inch diameter) Strawllers because I thought the smaller ones may shrink her hair up into nothing but a frizzy ball! I was hoping for nice soft waves.

We started by washing and conditioning her hair, then sectioned fairly large pieces (we wanted waves, not tight curls) and rolled them up onto the strawllers. The bottom layer of her hair was just too short to get around the strawllers, so I left it down and only curled the top half. We used 7 strawllers in all.

Now, I'm not going to lie. I had a really hard time getting these in, and out. I'm just not used to working with these types of curlers! They don't come with any way to secure them and in the instructions it says to use bobby pins or clips. I didn't know what I was doing, so I took a guess. See those little holes in the strawllers? Well I thought those might be for sticking the bobby pins in. WRONG that is a bad idea! It held them in just fine but uh, lets just say they were nearly impossible to get out. (See pics at the bottom of the post for more detail.) Anyway, that was my dumb mistake. Next time I'll know what I'm doing and it shouldn't be a problem (hopefully.) I guess it just takes a little practice. :)

Another thing to note is that these would not be comfortable for sleeping in, so you would need to use them when you have time to let the hair dry (while you're awake.) We did this in the afternoon after school one day and it took a good 3 hours to dry completely.

Here's what the curls looked like when we took the strawllers out. Nice wavy curls!

And after "finger combing."

This was just the look we were going for. Not too tight! Of course if you have longer hair or want a tighter curl, you would want to use one of the smaller sized strawllers sets and roll up smaller sections of hair.

Now, so that YOU don't make the same dumb mistake I did........

This is why. (Trust me it was not a pretty sight trying to get these out!)

THIS is how the Strawllers are meant to be secured..... And now that I've shown you what NOT to do, LOL. A giveaway so that one of you can try these out for yourself. (And hopefully have better luck with your bobby pins.)

I'm so excited about this giveaway! I can't say enough about the difference between "regular" flat irons and professional flat irons! I'm normally a CHEAPIE. We've had the Princess's baby blessing dress and shoes sitting in a box in our basement for almost 6 years now! I've been wanting to display them somehow, but just never have gotten around to it.

Look how cute our quilt from Campus Quilt Company turned out! I am beyond excited about this!! (So much better than our cute little dress sitting in a box somewhere, agreed?)

Here's a little peek into the Princess's room. I'm going to hang this quilt on the wall right there next to her bed. I plan on surprising the Princess with this adorable quilt on Christmas morning. I can't wait!! (If you know us irl, don't say anything to her, k?) Now I just need to keep her off of the blog until then so the surprise won't be ruined!
I would highly recommend this quilt company! It was so great working with them on this project. A few days after I placed the order, a kit arrived in the mail with clear instructions on what they needed to get started. The form was very detailed and simple to fill out, so I wasn't worried about not getting exactly what I wanted. Next, I boxed up the dress and instructions in the provided pre-paid shipping envelope and dropped it off at UPS. I was in contact with the company off and on the whole time they were working on the quilt (about 2 weeks.) Then, before the finished quilt was sent back to me, I was sent an email to confirm my shipping address and was given a UPS tracking number. I loved the customer service and contact I received throughout the entire process, very impressive. (Not to mention the quilt is absolutely beautiful!)

If you haven't already noticed, I'm a little obsessed with shoes! Not necessarily shoes for me, but......little shoes. (Baby shoes and toddler shoes.) They're just so dang cute!!

Seriously, look at these......and these!!! Have you ever seen anything cuter??

Sadly, The Princess is growing up and has grown out of toddler shoes. (sniff)

Luckily, I do have a little BOY who needs shoes. YAY!

We have a small problem buying this boy shoes though.............

Around our house we call this "Fred Flinstone Foot Syndrome." Our little boy has chubby/wide/fat feet! I feel bad having to jam and pinch his feet into uncomfortable shoes.

That's what I love so much about these soft soled baby shoes! They are so soft and stretchy with an elastic band around the ankle! After only a week, he has learned how to take them on and off by himself. AND, at the end of the day he doesn't have squished sore feet like some of his other shoes have left him with. After trying shoes especially made for baby and toddler feet, I don't think I'll ever go back to buying regular ones. There's just no comparison. As you can see, he loves these shoes!

I actually WON this in a random contest awhile ago but never even opened it because I already have a flat iron that I love and I don't really need two. This flat iron is top of the line, professional/salon quality. If I didn't already have a flat iron, I would be keeping this for myself!! In my opinion, you can get away with buying a cheap curling iron and not see much of a difference. But when it comes to buying a flat iron, it's completely worth the investment to get a quality one. I bought several cheapies that never worked the way I wanted them to before I finally broke down and bought a nice one. Let me tell you, there is no comparison!

Maybelline Pulse Perfection Mascara (NOW CLOSED)

To be completely honest with you all, I really don't wear makeup that often. What can I say? I'm a SAHM and rarely leave my house. When I do, it's an unglamorous trip to the grocery store. Yep, it's pretty sad. The poor children who have the pleasure of looking at me all day long don't really know me any other way. Maybe I should turn over a new leaf? Before I got married, I promised myself I wasn't going to turn into one of "those moms" kwim? *snort*

So anyway, the day after Walmart sent me this mascara to try out, I decided I was going to get my bum in gear and put on makeup for the first time in weeks!

I'm not going to lie, this mascara was a little intimidating at first. It's not exactly the mascara I'm used to. What's the big deal, you might ask? It vibrates!! Yes, a little weird at first, but I have to tell ya, something about the vibrations make this mascara go on smoothly and seems to separate my poor neglected eyelashes really well. Now I just need to commit to wearing it more often. I did feel better about myself that day!

A funny little side note: When I went in to get my 2 year old out of bed, he asked me why I had spider legs in my eyes!! Not exactly the response I was going for. But hey, a BOY noticed my eyes. That's a good thing, right? I'll take it!!
